Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, we can guide you to it using two of the nearest public libraries to Lower Gwynedd.
- If you’re closer to the Wissahickon Valley Public Library Ambler Branch, get onto Butler Ave heading northeast, keep going when it turns into Butler Pike, then turn left onto highway 309/Fort Washington Expressway. You’ll stay on that for a couple of bends. Just before the 7-Eleven on the right side of the road, turn right into our parking lot. We’re located at 1600 N Bethlehem Pike STE S-100.
- If you’re closer to the Horsham Township Library, get onto Babylon Rd heading southwest, then turn right onto highway 152/Limekiln Pike, then pretty soon you’ll turn sharply left onto Tennis Ave. Continue the zigzagging route by turning right onto Welsh Rd. You can’t turn right ono Lower State Rd, so keep going onto Bethlehem Pike, then immediately turn right onto the off-ramp, then right again onto Welsh Rd. We’re in the first building on the right after the big intersection.
Our Town’s History
Nestled within the rich tapestry of Montgomery County’s history, Lower Gwynedd stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of early American settlement. The origins of Gwynedd Township trace back to the late 17th century when Quaker communities, seeking a life of peace and spiritual freedom, established their roots under the auspices of William Penn’s visionary leadership. This initial settlement laid the groundwork for the area’s development, which, by 1891, led to the strategic division into what are now known as Lower and Upper Gwynedd.
The name ‘Gwynedd’ itself holds a poetic connection to the settlers’ Welsh heritage, being derived from “Gwyn Eth,” a term that translates to “white fields.” This nomenclature was inspired by the settlers’ first encounters with their new homeland, which, cloaked in a pristine blanket of snow, seemed to mirror the wintry landscapes of Wales. Such vivid imagery underscores the deep bond between the land and its early inhabitants, forging a sense of identity that has persisted through the centuries.
Lower Gwynedd’s historical narrative is deeply entwined with traditions and lineage. A remarkable embodiment of this enduring heritage is the presence of a community member directly descended from the township’s pioneering families. Among the 66 original pilgrims, the Evans family was notably prevalent, with 31 bearers of the name marking their new beginnings in this land. Today, the legacy of those early settlers lives on through Gwenellyn Evan Nicodemus, a direct descendant whose roots extend back over 300 years, remaining a living link to the township’s foundational past.
This rich history and the continued presence of its earliest families’ descendants contribute to Lower Gwynedd’s unique character. It’s a township that not only respects and honors its origins but also celebrates the continuity of community and the unbroken chain of heritage that connects the present to the pioneering spirit of its forebears.
